Migrating from manual SSH installation to Composer Installation

Starting with version 1.16.0 of all of our products, we've introduced Composer Installation. This has become the sole available installation method for all WeltPixel Products, including the Google Analytics 4 integration, the Pearl Theme and all other extensions. This means products and new updates will no longer be provided via zip files.

If you already have your WeltPixel product installed via SSH (in the app/code/WeltPixel directory), you'll need to migrate to Composer Installation. There are numerous advantages to this, including:

Significantly increased security
Faster, easier updates
Cleaner codebase and maintainability

The migration process is very simple, and we'll address it in the sections below.

Composer Setup

To gain access to Composer Installation, follow the steps below:

Log in to your customer account on the WeltPixel website
Use the navigation menu on the left to head into My Products.
Find your product and click Enable Composer. The page will refresh.
At the top of the page, you'll see your Composer Configuration Commands.
Run these commands in the root of your Magento 2 project.

WeltPixel License Showing "Invalid" in Magento Admin Out Of The Blue

Problem

You may see "Invalid" license messages for your WeltPixel modules in the Magento Admin panel, even though your license keys are valid and your support plan is active.

The error message typically reads:

License missing or invalid for the following WeltPixel module(s): [Module Name] => This license key is invalid, please add a valid license key.

Why This Happens

The WeltPixel Backend module caches license validation data locally. Occasionally, this cached data can become outdated, causing valid licenses to appear as "Invalid."

Solution

Simply log out of your Magento Admin panel and log back in. This refreshes the cached license validation data and resolves the "Invalid" status.

Click your username in the top-right corner of the Magento Admin
Click Sign Out
Log back in with your credentials
Navigate to System > WeltPixel Licenses to verify your licenses now show as Valid

How to set Magento 2 permissions and avoid installation errors

Accepted Answer

If you encounter installation issues or read/write errors in Magento 2, you may need to correct file permissions and ownership. Below are recommended setups for basic and advanced permissions.

1. Basic Permissions Setup

We recommend the following permissions for Magento:

Directories: 711
PHP files: 600
All other files: 644

Run these commands from your Magento root:

find . -type d -exec chmod 0711 {} +
find . -type f -exec chmod 0644 {} +
find . -type f -name "*.php" -exec chmod 600 {} +

Set the correct ownership (replace <owner>:<group> with your actual user and group):

chown -R <owner>:<group> .

Common groups include: www-data:www-data, root:root, www-data:magento — but this depends on your server setup.

Finally, make bin/magento executable:

chmod u+x bin/magento

2. Advanced Permissions Setup

On private servers, you may log in as one user but run the web server as another. In this case, both users need to be in the same group to allow proper file access.

Step 1 — Find your username

whoami

Step 2 — Identify the web server user

ps aux | grep apache

Usually, it’s www-data.

Step 3 — Find the web server group

groups www-data

Fixing the PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN) Warning is important to ensure your store processes payments correctly. If you’ve ever run into this issue, you’ve likely received the following message from PayPal:

“Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN).
IPNs sent to the following URL(s) are failing:
http://yourstore.com/paypal/ipn/
If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information.
If this problem continues, IPNs may be disabled for your account.”

Here’s how to solve it step by step:

Step 1: Check your PayPal IPN settings

Log into your PayPal Account.
Navigate to:
My Account -> Profile -> My Selling Tools -> Instant Payment Notifications -> Update -> Choose IPN Settings.
Paste the notification URL provided by your store.
Enable the option “Receive IPN messages”.

Step 2: Multiple stores using the same PayPal account

If you’re using one PayPal merchant account across multiple stores, you may see conflicts.

Some recommend creating a separate PayPal account per store, but this isn’t practical.
Instead, note that each shop system automatically sends its **own IPN

1) Using a child theme for Magento 2 customizations

It’s best practice to place all customizations in a child theme so core/theme updates don’t overwrite your work.

Enable the included Pearl child theme at:
Admin → Content → Design → Configuration → (Edit your store view) → Theme → “Custom Pearl Theme for Magento 2.”

Add your custom CSS here: app/design/frontend/Pearl/weltpixel_custom/web/css/source/wp_custom.less

2) Magento 2 CSS customization

Small visual tweaks are easiest in the child theme’s wp_custom.less.

Example: Hide the search box in the header.

In Magento 2.1.x, enabling Cookie Restriction Mode can cause issues with Google Tag Manager (GTM) and Google Analytics (GA) tracking.

Due to a bug (GitHub issue #5596), Magento does not display GA or GTM tracking scripts, even if the user has accepted cookies.

Solutions

There are several ways to resolve this issue:

Deactivate Cookie Restriction Mode

This will bypass the issue, but it may not be suitable if your store requires cookie compliance.

Upgrade Magento to the Latest Version (Recommended)

Updating your Magento installation resolves this bug in later releases.
