Choosing which product ID each ad platform receives (Variant ID, Product ID or SKU)
Every product event WPX Conversion Tracking sends (product views, add to cart, checkout, purchase and refund) identifies each product by an ID. Which ID a platform receives matters when that platform matches your events against a product catalog, as Meta does, and when your reports are built around one identifier.
Where to set it
In the app, open Advanced Settings. Each channel's section has a Product identifier sent in events dropdown with three choices: Variant ID, Product ID and SKU. Pick one per channel and save. The choice applies to every product event that channel receives.
The setting is part of the Plus plan. On other plans the row is shown locked and each channel sends its default.
Defaults
Channel | Default |
|---|---|
Google Analytics 4 | Variant ID |
TikTok | Variant ID |
Variant ID | |
Variant ID | |
Meta | Product ID |
Snapchat | Product ID |
OpenAI Ads | Product ID |
Google Ads and Klaviyo don't have this option. Leaving a channel on its default changes nothing: the default is what the app has always sent.
Before you change it
- Match your catalog. For platforms that match events to a product catalog, pick the identifier your catalog on that platform uses. If the two don't match, events won't connect to your catalog products.
- Expect new items in reports. After a switch, products show up as new items in that platform's reports, because they arrive under a different ID. Keep that in mind if you rely on product-level history.
- Variants without a SKU. With SKU selected, a variant that has no SKU sends the channel's default ID instead, so no event goes out without one.
- Parent SKUs. SKUs are set on each variant, and there's no option to send a parent or combined SKU.
Checking it worked
Trigger a product view or place a test order, then look at the product ID in the platform's own event view, such as GA4 DebugView or Test Events in Meta Events Manager. It should show the identifier you picked.
