How to Add a Configurable Product in Magento 2

Creating a Configurable Product in Magento 2 is simple. It allows you to combine multiple Simple Products into a parent product with selectable options, such as size or color.

Step 1. Login to your Magento Admin Panel and navigate to Catalog -> Products. Click the arrow next to Add Product and select Configurable Product.

Step 2. Choose the Attribute Set, enter the product Name, set the Price, and assign the product to a Category. Don’t forget to adjust the Visibility (Catalog, Search) and Quantity.

Step 3. Scroll to the Configurations tab and click Create Configurations.

You’ll be guided through 4 steps:

1. Select Attributes – Choose the attributes to configure, such as Color and Size. You can also create new ones here.

2. Attribute Values – Pick values for each attribute. For example:

• Color: Black, Green, Red
• Size: 55cm, 6ft

3. Bulk Images, Price and Quantity – Magento shows how many Simple Products will be created. Here you can assign images, prices, and quantities. (Optional: These settings can also be updated later.)

4. Summary – Review the configurations and click Generate Products to create the Simple Products.

Step 4. After generation, the new Simple Products will appear under the Configurations tab and in Catalog -> Products.

Finally, fill in other sections as needed:

• Content
• Related Products, Up-Sells, and Cross-Sells
• Search Engine Optimization
• Customizable Options
• Products in Websites
• Design
• Gift Options
